On Indian River
On Indian River
I saw a man
Fall from the sky
He fell to the river
Surfaced and laughed
Gave a great cry
I watched him in wonder
Eyes like the sun
Naked and strong
As I floated toward him
He disappeared
Into his song
He sang a song so deep and wide
Falcons would fly, mountains would hide
Until the rivers of change could take him somplace
He's never been
His song made me tremble
Shook my canoe
Brought me to tears
But when he stopped singing
I was alive
Shriven of fear
He came to me softly
He touched my arm
Opened my eyes
I must have been dreaming
Only a crow
High in the sky
And I have a song so deep and wide
Falcons will fly, mountains will hide
Until the rivers of change can take me someplace
I've never been
I've never been
