You Hang Up First

I'm a songwriter from Lockport, NY, USA. I started writing songs on a Heit acoustic guitar at age ten, and continued throughout my angst ridden high school and college years. I gave up songwriting and pretended to be an adult for a couple of decades. Now my kids are done with college and I can stop pretending. Nobody was buying it anyways. I recently started writing songs again, concentrating on songs with strong melodies that people can hum along to on their way home from work. The whole introspective, angst-ridden thing is long gone. Anyway, I can still feed any introspective tendencies by working on my musical-drama-in-progress, which has the cheery title, "The Death Book."

Lyrics
YOU HANG UP FIRST   (verse 1) So how was practice after school? The coach was in a real bad way? Well, I went over to Brittney's house She had a fight with Mike today She says he is a jerk He told you she was really mad? She cried the whole time I was there Well, good, I’m glad he’s feeling bad   I see my father just pulled in the driveway I've gotta go But I don't wanna go   (chorus) You hang up first No you......... no you You hang up first No you, ........ no you ‘Cause I’ve got dinner, dishes, homework All night long – I think I’ll burst So you hang up first…no you You hang up first    (verse 2) I’m gonna be right here tonight ‘Cause I've got lots I've got to do I’ve got that thing on global warming Due on Friday, how ‘bout you? You can call if you want I guess that paper…it can wait But I've got math I’ve gotta do So when you call don’t call too late   My mom is yellin' to come down for dinner I’ve gotta go But I don't wanna go   (repeat chorus) (bridge) I'll be thinkin' of you Oh, I’ll be thinkin’ of you Will you be thinkin’ of me?   (repeat chorus)   (tag) (spoken) How about we both count to three and hang up? Ready? One...two...three.... Hello? Hello? I can’t believe he hung up on me   Bill Osofsky, BMI, copyright 2008
