A convicting song about spending time with your kids, along the same lines as Cats in the Cradle
This morning God got me up at 5am to write a song. One I couldn't quit crying over. I have just been thinking over the years I've missed with my wife and kids, and they cannot be recovered.
Our busy schedules steal precious moments and times together that God intended us to share with our kids.
TAKE and MAKE the time to be with them. Fly a kite. Read a book together. Play a game together. Don't lose these moments God has given you.
Someday
(c)2009 Christopher M Solaas
I called to say I'm running late
You check the clock, it's half-past eight
You wonder why it has to be this way.
Seems work is always in the way
It's stolen all my time away
But I promise it will really change
Someday.
Someday we'll all go for a walk
Someday we'll sit down, just to talk
We'll have time to grow more in love someday.
Someday I'll play ball with the kids
We'll ride our bikes, chase katydids
Explore this world with our boys and girls
Someday.
Chorus:
Let's let today be that someday!
Let's pack the kids up and take a drive
Celebrate the fact that we're alive
Forget about the stress that rules our lives
While we drive, we can read a book
Or you be Wendy, I'll be Captain Hook
The kids will come and rescue you
And we'll laugh till we turn blue
For today is that Someday.
I can't call back the times I missed
They've faded in the passing mist
Of promises I never meant to break.
Commitments always came along
Like church, and Scouts, and even songs
I'll put them all aside for you
Someday.
Someday I'll teach these kids to pray
Someday I'll wipe their tears away
And show them Daddy's home to stay someday.
Someday we'll go out on a date
And snuggle close, and stay up late
I just pray that it's not too late
Someday.
Chorus:
