Country, Country Rock, Alternative Country, Folk Rock! A story song and a true story at that!
I used to 'ride the range' driving limos for a living. Driving through the 'canyons' of NYC, I'd often think about the woman I once loved from Xanadu Row. VP
I was ridin' the range in my limousine, waitin' for the sun to rise.
Knowin' the day was gonna be cold and grey made me stop to realize,
that there's too many miles between all the smiles and yes I'm the one to blame.
I felt alone, out of time, out of rhythm, out of rhyme, but it was done, I turned around and I headed home.
Later on in the Back In The Saddle Saloon, waitin' for the snow to move on.
I was drinking my way right through the end of the day making sure that it was gone.
When I was told I should go up on Xanadu Row. She'd be waitin' there for me.
Snow had passed. Road was plowed. I didn't need this lonely crowd.
The day was done, but the night was young, and you never know.
You'll never know, till you go,
go to Xanadu Row. You'll never know.
She was hoping that night for her luck to change, knowin' that it never would.
With nothin' to lose, she kicked off her blues,
and loved me like only she could.
But then it hit me so hard, it caught me off guard that she really cared for me.
It didn't take long to see, what was happenin' to me.
I took a chance, played for keeps and she stole my heart.
You'll never know, till you go,
go to Xanadu Row. You'll never know.
When you look back in time there are things that you find that make you wanna laugh or cry.
She was right for me but I was to blind to see, now I sit and wonder why.
That there's too many miles between all the smiles and yes I'm the one to blame.
I felt alone, out of time, out of rhythm, out of rhyme, but for a while she made me smile.
Hey you never know.
You'll never know till you go,
go to Xanadu Row. You'll never know.
You'll never know till you go,
go to Xanadu Row. You'll never know.
