Story behind the song
This is the first of what I hope to be many collaborations on SC with Ian Henderson (painted water). Ian and I had been talking about collaborating for a little while. I sent him a song that I was working on, which inspired him to write the music that ultimately became this song.
When I listened to the music, this is the feeling it generated in me. It's kind of hard to explain what I mean by that, but suffice it to say that the idea of being taught to appreciate life and what we have around us came from the music Ian wrote. The lyrics I wrote in this particular song are not actually one story of mine per se, but a bit of an amalgamation of various aspects of my own experience and those around me. There's a bit of someone lost, there's a bit of learning, there's a bit of love, there's a bit of appreciation, but it's not a single literal story. Sometimes my songs are literally one experience, like When Will I Let You Go, and other times, it's a combination of thoughts and experiences, like One Life and Just a Mystery.
And the rest, as they say, is history :)
