Cliff Side Dive
When she heard her ex made bail, she jumped in that old Chevelle
Took off from Point Reyes on the run
Half moon hovered like a ghost, her car was flyin’ down the coast
Then puttered out on Pacific Highway 1
She winced at the bruises ‘neath her faded K-Mart clothes
Popped the trunkâ€got a gas can and a two-foot hose
Hadda ditch California if she wanted to survive
Walked along the ridge till she saw a cliff side dive
Well the salty ocean breeze, stung the cuts around her knees
As she crept up to an old sedan
Ducked when some headlights past, then she siphoned out some gas
Put a few gallons in that rusty old can
Asked herself if runnin’ was the smartest thing to do
Is it really movin’ forward if the past is chasin’ you
Lifted up the windshield and left that guy a five
As the bouncer and barkeep walked from that cliff side dive
Well they snuck around the car, and surprised her in the dark
And the bouncer tried to grab her hands
Then the barkeep said to stop, maybe they should call the cops
But the bouncer’s grin talked him into other plans
She reached in her coatâ€.jammed her key in that bouncer’s eye
The barkeep flashed a blade and she knew it was do or die
He chased her to the ledge with moonlight on his knife
She said a prayer on the edge then took a cliff side dive
Somehow she was saved, she crawled up from the waves
Revenge around her mind, kelp around her hands
Those guys needed to be stopped, she thought she’d call the cops
But that bouncer’s grin talked her into other plans
She found that gas can sittin’ pretty in the night
The bar had closedâ€.just two shadows moved inside
The blaze blew some propane tanks and none survived
Hell couldn’t hold a candle to the fire at the cliff side dive
Well, she vanished in the mist along the morning shore
And her mean ex-husband never bothered her no more
Cos the cops said he oughtta watch out for his ex-wife
They found her Chevelle near that burned up cliff side dive
