Who is wise in their own eyes? The person who rejects the Lord's council as given through His word and by His spirit. For others, God has given the wisdom of the ages in the teachings of Solomon... thousands of years old but still pertinent to us all
God's Word presented in song and verse.
in those quiet times spent alone with Him and in His Word. After nine years composing, arranging and recording... The Alpha & Omega Suite was finished at the end of 2008 and is ready for distribution in 2009! The Suite consists of thirty five parts which span two hours and forty minutes. This inspired music praises God and His Word; introduces His laws; His doctrines; His decrees; His covenants; and His grace to those who may never be exposed to His written Word otherwise. No glory, honor, or prestige is given to this earthly vessel, only to the One Who deserves it and is worthy of it!
Story behind the song
Due to the restricted venues of communication, very few figures from the ancient world were able to transcend their culture and become accurately known throughout the world. It was even more rare when a monarch obtained adoration and respect in areas outside of his own kingdom and home turf. Solomon, the successor to king David's throne and third king of united Israel was just such a figure. Through remarkable achievements and the dynamics of a powerful reign, Solomon's influence traveled far beyond the borders of his small kingdom. He became the epitome of what an earthly leader could be and could obtain with the right conditions.
At the beginning of his reign, when presented with a choice by the Lord as to any request he might wish for, Solomon chose to possess a wise mind which would enable him to discern between good and evil. The purpose of this request was so he could be a better ruler and govern his subjects as a great and fair king. God was pleased by this request and since Solomon had not included any desire for personal pride, prestige or power, God not only granted it but also gave Solomon areas of abundant wealth as well. Along with God's promise was a prophecy which easily summarized what Solomon's reign would be known for, "none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you... no other king shall compare with you, all your days." Solomon's humble request had guaranteed him earthly greatness as well as legendary status for ever after.
The biblical accounts of Solomon are the most accurate historical records we have. Though freely mentioned by other cultures, his place is relegated to that of mythology, possessing a supernatural mystique with little of the human element left intact. On the other hand, the Bible doesn't gloss over his flaws and faults. We see that by the end of his life Solomon had let fame and power go to his head and corrupt his relationship with God. He had 'sold out' and compromised areas which would affect his nation and all who followed after him. By elevating self, Solomon had lowered God, bringing about natural consequences of a 'falling away' process amongst his heirs and countrymen.
Though tarnished by areas of weakness, Solomon also possessed the incredible mind which God had given in his early life. His understanding of: the natural world and the way things are; the animal kingdom; the world of plants; human emotions, thinking, motives, reasonings and general physiology; all helped him wisely rule and deal out justice and mercy like no other monarch before or since. His sharp mind was so well-known that when tested by the Queen of Sheba, she exclaimed, "the report of your words and of your wisdom is true, but I could not believe the reports until I came and saw with my own eyes!" We are told that "God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure" and "Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt" and "people of all nations came to hear the wisdom of Solomon."
By recording some of Solomon's writings and teachings, the Bible helps us understand the world around us and the people we are with. The roots of western civilization, our philosophy, and our thoughts find their roots in the wisdom of Solomon. People and societies globally have been affected due to the impact of a young ruler who allowed himself to be clay in the hands of a righteous God who could use him for so much.
"Solomon's Overture" contains verses which share from the proverbs and books of wisdom... with all their great, helpful advice which we can learn and grow from. But, in each chorus the other side of the coin, the personal problems of Solomon, emerge and flash warnings to us. Just like Solomon, we too should be aware that possessing knowledge, prestige and power doesn't bring us any closer to God, but can become stumbling blocks to sweep us away from Him. Let's learn from hi
Lyrics
(VERSE 1)
Proverbs instructs the wise not to be foolish.
Not to build our house on a foundation of sand.
It will not stand. It crumbles down. Falls to the ground.
Be ever so wise and discreet. Don't base your life upon deceit.
So you might discern. Open your mind to learn.
(VERSE 2)
Conclusions based upon fallacies of vapor.
Shred-up that paper. It only will deceive.
It's harm won't leave. Caught in it's throes. The cancer grows.
The stronghold in which you trust weakens, falls and does rust.
Smart in our own eyes. Surely the Lord must chastise.
(CHORUS 1)
When presented with a choice from the Lord.
Could have asked for anything.
Requested a heart to discern and be a great king.
God was pleased with Solomon and gave him wisdom for justice.
But also blessed with glory, honor and wealth.
If he only would not stray and jeopardize himself.
(VERSE 3)
Train up your child in the way that he should go.
Even when he gets old, he will not depart from it.
Those ways benefit. Walk with integrity, honesty and sincerity.
The inheritance you will leave. Your children will not grieve.
So they might know our Lord. This wealth you can afford.
(VERSE 4)
Enticements. Why should you consent when they do come?
You will not sink into sand if you stand firm on the land.
Take your stand. Don't take the false as your main course.
Making a hero out of a crook is like math that don't add up.
So you might be blessed. Don't reason without a hypothesis.
(CHORUS 2)
Solomon enjoyed the finest of splendors.
Given by God who loved him as His friend.
He had the greatest mind of any who ever lived here.
Yet he chose to rebel and walk the darkened bend.
Yet his lust for more brought him to an end.
(VERSE 5)
Make your ear attentive to God's wisdom.
Incline your heart to understanding the Lord.
As His love poured. Don't loathe reproof. Bathe in His truth.
For who the Lord does protect. Through kindness He corrects.
His word around your neck. Write it on your heart's tablet.
(VERSE 6)
He who troubles his house inherits the wind.
His problems begin. The wicked lead him astray.
With motives the Lord does weigh. Abomination is the game he plays.
The king's heart flows like a river. God turns it where He delivers.
You can prepare your horse for war. But victory belongs to the Lord.
(FINALE)
Alleluia, God is with ya. Alleluia, Praise Jehovah.
Alleluia, God is with ya. Alleluia, Praise Jehovah.
Alleluia, God is with ya. Alleluia, Praise Jehovah.
