Story behind the song
Another lyric from Jonathon Harflett (formerly of Dawnwind). This was written in the 1970s and Jonathon doesn't say who it is about. I thought Delia Derbyshire though that doesn't fit timewise and in other ways. This was the second of Jonathon's lyrics I set and the second tune I ever wrote. I think both of us have mixed feelings about the result and our friend Angie hates the music. You are free to make up your own mind.

You were lonely too by Jonathan Harflett once you would sing words that grew like flowers in your mouth drifting gentle colours in the night and fill the dark around our minds with light but I could never understand how you could hold such beauty in your hand and yet you eyes would fill with drops of rain I never new that you were lonely too. and so I left you not knowing that your world turned grey perhaps I should have stayed with you but there were other things for me to do though far behind my seasons you were there a catching poems as they tumbled through the air still making songs to ease the ache of time I never knew that you were lonely too and now I hear you’ve laid your songs aside and taken night and silence as your bride because you couldn’t bear the empty wind that blew among your hair and you were tired of singing to an empty room I think I’ve gone where no one knows your name and all voices are the same I never knew that you were lonely too

we are in love with your very interesting music & we truly enjoy the wild different types of voice fx you always use, im sure you noticed we always use wild voice fx as well!! your sound is different than anything on the radio, please dont ever change your style, it is beautiful!!! ^v^ honestly your sound would be excellent for some movie soundtrax like (a clockwork orange) or some stanley kubrick films!!! and thats a big compliment, we are huge fans of the clockwork orange soundtrack, keep up the good work!!! maybe if your interested you could get together with us on a colaboration some time =-) ^v^ sincerely nurse nosferatu hatchet & the entire vampirates crew ^v^
