I was inspired to write this after attending a show by the vocalist Carole Martin. She did a wonderful version of 'Blame It On My Youth'. I especially liked how she did a straightforward reading of the lyric, but her emotion and experience was evident in every syllable. I wanted to write something that reflected that kind of subtext, and this was the result.
One day the rain will fall from the sky
But you have no idea
You'll be the one left wondering why
But you have no idea
Troubles will come, as sure as you're born
In time, all will be laid low
But the wisdom you gain from the heartache and pain
Eases the sting of the blow
You say you know what I'm going through
But you have no idea
You know how it feels to be shattered and blue
But you have no idea
Time is a healer, it can save your soul
But the time and the place are beyond our control
And the songs yet unsung lie too easily on your tongue
And you have no idea
