It's called Maximum Honky Tonk, and no one plays it like Bob Wire. Country, blues, rockabilly, folk, and some good ol' rock and roll. Honest, smart and funny.
Funniest blog on the web? Judge for yourself at NewWest.net/BobWire. You won't regret it. I swear. This is Butt-twitchin' country music for adults with a brain and a sense of humor! Bob Wire writes catchy, original songs with a twisted perspective that puts him way out in the left field of Nashvegas. Bob sez: Hank Jr. is the disease, and Hank Sr. is the cure.

Story behind the song
I wanted to write a song in the style of some of my honky tonk favorites from the early to mid-50's. I got local keyboard whiz Bob Athearn to lay down some great Floyd Cramer-style licks for me, which totally makes the song come alive. When I tracked the lead vocals, I was just getting over a respiratory infection and my throat was still not quite back to normal. I kind of like the damaged quality to the vocal, though, because it gives the song a bit of vulnerability.
Lyrics
Nothing this good lasts forever, ‘least that’s what they say I knew in the back of my mind you’d leave me someday Now that that day has arrived, I won’t cry at all No trouble reading the writing you left on the wall It’s Saturday night and I’m not alone I turned down the lights and unplugged the phone We’re drinking some wine and watching tv And we’re doing fine, just my heartache and me I wonder how long he’ll be staying, this old friend of mine Seems like he stays just a little bit longer each time I lock all my doors but he always finds a way in He’s here to remind me just what a fool I have been It’s Saturday night and I’m not alone I turned down the lights and unplugged the phone We’re drinking some wine and watching tv And we’re doing fine, just my heartache and me Bridge Everybody needs a friend to lean on now and then My heartache’s always been there when I’m down Every time I fall in love, I fall back out again And my old familiar pal comes back around It’s Saturday night and I’m not alone I turned down the lights and unplugged the phone We’re drinking some wine and watching tv And we’re doing fine, just my heartache and me
