A song about a child who grows to be an adult and then who sees a light in Heaven at the end of his life.
I was driving home one evening and saw lights streaming from many homes. I thought back to being a child and feeling the comfort of seeing a light when I came home.
A Light In The Window
(D)I still recall the years gone by and (A7)how things
used to be.
Those memories stay in my mind, still fresh for me to
(D)see.
When I stayed out too late for her, mama had a
(G)light.
In the window (D)was the light (A)to guide me in the
(D)night.
Chorus
(G)A light in the window, and (D)she was waiting
there.
(A7)Praying and pacing, her (D)heart was filled with
care.
(G)A light in the window that (D)I could always see,
(A7)A light in the window for (D)me.
Verse Two
(D)The years have passed and now I have (A7) a son
to call my own.
When he is out too late at night, I'm up till he comes
(D)home
With light turned on I pray for him, my heart is filled
with (G)care.
I just can't rest un(D)til he's home and (A7)I can see
him (D)there.
Chorus
(G)A light in the window, and (D)I am waiting there.
(A7)Praying and pacing, my (D)heart is filled with
care.
(G)A light in the window wher(D)ever he should
roam,
(A7)The light will guide him (D)home.
(D)Someday I'll make my journey home (A7)to
heaven's golden shore.
There'll be a bright light burning there -- and Jesus by
the (D)door.
I'll see my loved ones waiting there -- I'll climb those
golden (G)stairs.
When I see Jesus, (D)I'll be home and (A7)give Him
all my (D)cares.
Chorus
(G)A light in the window on (D)heaven's golden
shore,
(A7)Waiting and smiling, He'll (D)meet me at the
door.
(G)A light in the window, so (D)I will never stray,
(A7)His light will show the (D)way.
(A7)His light will show the (D)way.
