A descriptive song with dates, names of events and a little hisory...the Trail of Tears...I hope I did the Cherokee language justice at the end, thanks for listening
A friend asked me to write a song about the Trail of tears, I really didnt know much about it, but what I learned touched me...and this song came out of it.
The Cherokee were on their way
to land they did not know
Forced to leave there homes behind,
due to greed and gold
The soldiers gathered them all up,
Van Buren led the way
And in the spring of 38…
they took their land away
It wasn’t without a fight
that they left their homes
Chief Ross petitioned
to leave the cherokee all alone
But congress greed, and White mans creed
They had different plans…
they didn’t care for the Indian
no more native man
They gathered them in Georgia,
in New Echota they would start
1200 miles of harsh country,
they were forced to march
The trail was long and many died,
as the tears they hit the ground
And where they fell,
the roses bloomed
memories of freedom bound
CHORUS
So as the days went by,
and spirits were low
the Cherokee they would sing
Amazing grace they sang from their hearts,
for the comfort it would bring
Now the trail of tears
was many moons ago,
but even to this day
If you listen closely to the wind
you can hear the Cherokee say
"u ne la nv i u we tsi
i ga go yv he I
hna quo tso sv wi yu lo se
i ga gu yv ho nv
