Story behind the song
I very rarely write love songs, this is about saying goodbye and feeling old and worn out as a result...it's also very old I wrote this in 1972ish then revived it for the Buddha Grass Album...
Lyrics
Weary Past My Time Many’s the time I’ve said I love you And many's the time I've said I care But I’m leavin’ in the morning Oh and I, I ain’t comin’ back Oh I thought you were so lonesome And I thought I was the one And I thought that you loved me But it seems that I was wrong I feel as though I’m getting old and weary past my time And I’m never gonna see your face again Oh you were all I ever wanted Just to hold you tight And you could have helped me make it Through the long and lonely night I feel as though I’m getting old and weary past my time And I’m never gonna see your face again I feel as though I’m getting old and weary past my time And I’m never gonna see your face again Many’s the time we talked of freedom But the words seem empty now And I said I’d give my world to you Oh but you don’t need it now I feel as though I’m getting old and weary past my time And I’m never gonna see your face again I feel as though I’m getting old and weary past my time And I’m never gonna see you…
