Story behind the song
This is a song about a tough girl (who I just plain out have nothing in common with,) who fears the committment and emotional intimacy required of relationships. So she puts on this act that she needs nothing, wants nothing and can take off unpredictably when too much is asked of her. The irony of this song is that she never does any of this but likes to obsess about her getaway plan for the day when she will fly like an eagle into the future. *Note - this song is not autobiographical. Really. It's not. I swear. This song is totally unlike me. I'm totally comfortable with intimacy! I love intimacy! I never fear that someone will rip the rug right out from under me. I never fear that someone will trick me into letting down my guard. I never for one second believe that to love means making oneself vulnerable to disappointment and pain. Never. That's just not me.
