Lyrics
[08-21-07] So, anybody talk to the Taxpayers League lately? No? That’s’s strange, one would have thought the window of opportunity is closing on the 35W Bridge Collapse. You remember the Taxpayers League don’t you? They were the wind behind the sails of Pawlentys’ No New Tax Pledge we are only now seeing the results of. The self proclaimed voice of the taxpayers have fallen silent for the first time since its inception, in the bedroom of David Strom and his mom’s basement. But one trip to the Taxpayers League website, and you might see signs of crow, waiting to be eaten. When it’s time for the website to show urban density, they line the Twin Cities up with Hong Kong, Tokyo and freakin Paris?! When it’s time to show the cost of operating Light Rail, they measure it with a Lexus—ever see 88 people in a Lexus? Me neither. Ask Taxpayers League how many times they’ve ever endorsed a tax in crease for infrastructure. Ask the Taxpayers League how many times they’ve even mentioned the word “infrastructure” in their pages. They claim to be the voice of the taxpayers, only the League is run by Republican Phil Krinkie who just happened to chair the Tax Committee. Experience is one thing, shaping the minds of potential constituents is a conflict of interest. They claim to be bi-partisan, and listening to their commercials really sets the record straight: [audio] vote with Pawlenty…etc And listen to this commercial, when then-St Cloud Mayor John Ellenbecker proposed a tax increase: [audio] Only problem was, the tax in crease was targeted for infrastructure like bridge repair. While it’s not fair to use the sentiment of the tragedy to bolster a point, what’s so different than the Taxpayers League using the sensitivity of taxes to bolster theirs? Look, Taxes suck, but there’s a reason we have them and bridges that fall down might be a good start. From the mouths of an organization whose only talent is to demur any tax movement whatsoever, the sound is ominously silent. Their statement on the Bridge Collapse dissuades any attempt to use this tragedy for political purposes. Isn’t this what political purposes are meant for?! So Taxpayers League, where’s your sage advice and tax-free solutions now? I have a slogan for ya: shut up. Or how about this one: go away. If I need help discerning where and how much of my tax dollars are handled, the bagpipes from the radiator make a better case than you—and they don’t hide when there’s good crow screaming to be consumed.
