The CNN/YouTube debates last night show exactly why we need to give up on this whole presidential debate platform. In fact, let’s blow up the whole idea of an executive leader altogether! Why not let the governors of all 50 states gather for one week of the four to iron out policies and procedures.
They all know how to run government, and let’s face it, it’s really not that difficult, invading another country notwithstanding;
Last nights’ debate was more akin to playing dolls than deliberations on our country’s woes, and when the top (3) candidates in terms of money win microphone time at a rate of 3 to 1, it shows the only president that really matters is the Benjamin.
Take Governor Bill Richardson; not one of those candidates has more experience than Bill Richardson, yet he continually receives fewest airtime, fewest mentions, littlest attention, and even less money.
Yet, here is a man, a candidate, who is former Secretary of Energy, current Governor of Mexico; this man brokered a 60-day cease fire in Darfur, and a four time Nobel Peace Prize nominee after negotiating the release of hostages in Sudan, North Korea, Iraq and Cuba! And still has the normalcy to legalize medical marijuana.
Yet this proven leader, successful ambassador and obviously top democratic presidential candidate, but can’t get a dollar to his name or screen time long enough to wink.
Why? Because money makes the elections go round, and if you’ve got a quirk like your blackness, your womanhood or your hair, all the better.
But make no mistake, if you can’t keep up with The Joneses, you may as well fold your cards and start a reality show.
But the more sobering reality is, that after you win the Presidency, ALL THAT MONEY is gonna come back a callin…and payback, is a bitch.
