Story behind the song
Borglum personifies some of the dark nooks and crannies of American history. He was a dyed-in-the-wool racist, spouting the party line of the Ku Klux Klan for years. A charmer used to getting his own way, he had monstrous temper tantrums during the numerous obstacles to his greatest creation. And, wonder of wonders, he really was a well-known womanizer.
