There just seems to be a lot of pirate stuff out there, so I wrote a song that hopefully will have a positive influence
In youth I had decided a pirate’s life for me
Taking what I hankered, the scourge o’ the briny deep
I pillaged and I plundered, imbibed in worldly pleasure
‘Twas in this fallen world, that I had put me treasure
But Jesus wouldn’t have it, He wrested me away
‘Twas by His sovereign power, they arrested me on that day
He yanked me from me wicked ways, me wanderings asunder
And showed His mighty love and grace, the awesome God of wonder
So dash the Jolly Roger, the booty, and the grog
There ain’t real joy in earthly things, the treasure is in God!
Jesus stole our sins away on Calvary’s cruel cross that day
His mercies are renewed each day; the Holy Spirit guides the way
Well stay the jib, me hearties, furl the sheets on the mizzen mast
Beware yer trust in worldly things that never will ever last
So trust yer heart in the Holy One with riches without measure
Sing yo ho ho on the dead man’s chest that bears no earthly treasure
So now I come to the end of this, a tale of a tawdry lad
Jesus tuned me life for good, when I had intended bad
I’ve left me pirate ways behind, sunk deep beneath the sea
Of forgiveness, my Lord redeemed me for all of eternity
So dash the Jolly Roger, the booty, and the grog
There ain’t real joy in earthly things, the treasure is in God!
So dash the Jolly Roger, the booty, and the grog
There ain’t real joy in earthly things, the treasure is in God!
