Perhaps hankering after lost youth?
It seems that this is another song perhaps hankering after lost youth, or maybe just a statement of my distrust and cynicism with regard to Capitalism and Thatchers legacy...of course I am a child of an earlier generation. It's not a political song, but it seems it is getting more difficult to escape this materialistic lifestyle , and that I guess is what this song is all about.
Used To B e.
When I was younger man, I thought I knew,
That good luck and the hand of fate would see me through.
But know I’ve learned just what the world can do,
And I believe now that I’ve changed my mind.
Yesterday it all seemed perfectly clear,
None of us knew that we would end up here.
A society of cheats and cheated it does appear,
And I swear, they just ain’t my kind.
Used to be, just like the river flowing to the sea,
Rolling through life so free and easy,
That’s how I used to be.
Used to dance, to the rhythm of coincidence and circumstance,
Planning nothing’, always taking that chance.
That’ how I used to dance.
So I made my peace with everyone,
Took a ride into the setting sun.
Ended up at the same place where I had begun,
And I knew there ain’t nowhere to run.
Used to be, just like the river flowing to the sea,
Rolling through life so free and easy,
That’s how I used to be.
Used to dance, to the rhythm of coincidence and circumstance,
Planning nothing’, always taking that chance.
That’ how I used to dance.
