Hipper Than Thou is essentially School House Rock for obscure history and theology.
Hipper Than Thou is an ill fated collection of personalities with no commercial aspirations whatsoever. Our music is less bound by style than it is by talent. All songs are limited to the 9 chords our guitarist knows. Stylistically we range from Folk, to Jazz Folk, to Electric Folk, with a little Folk Rock.

Story behind the song
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot. . . and then we got an NBA franchise and a Starbucks and one of those Krispy Kreme places and a mall. . . .
Lyrics
I Love The Things that Concrete Brings When I was a kid we had trees all around, We had stars in the sky, and we heard animal sounds, Indian arrowheads to be found. That was when I was a kid. When I was a kid we had a football team You either played or you cheered, wore either yellow or green. The city shut down and took in the whole scene. That was about all we did. We didn’t have fast internet where I was. The power would go out whenever it rained. We had to drive to town for enchiritas. Yeah, I love the things that concrete brings almost as much as I love to complain. When I was a kid we thought the Wal-Mart was king We’d drive for miles into town to buy the citified things But Homogenization is all that it brings, A little convenience, too. When I was a kid, we used to park in a field. We’d get stuck in the mud, even with all four wheels. But now they have paved it and painted it teal. It’s safe and it’s lit and it’s new. The water that we drank meant early dentures. Mercury and lead would drive you insane. The well would often freeze up in the winter. Yeah, I love the things that concrete brings almost as much as I love to complain. (Bridge – Tom Waits Style) Lisa likes park avenue (am)and penthouse views. Oliver likes fresh air and chores. He takes the time to visit friends who care for you. But when Mr. Haney puts the squeeze on he’s gotta miss those stores. When I was young I used to have to Walk to school. A country Mile, barefoot, in snow, up Hill both ways. The friendship then were great, I still remember them. But I will not relive those younger days.
