This is a cowrite with Wayne Broach.
Wayne is a trucker/poet who wrote a lyric called same old me but it wasn't quite working as a song. I kept the imagery and the hook and wrote a chorus. I like the idea of this lonely guy hoping the new year is going to bring a new outlook but alas, we can change our suit but we cannot as easily change ourselves
It's a new year celebration
My eye is on the ball
A time for a new beginning
A chance to change it all
But when the clock strikes
Midnight
I'ts plane to see
It's just another day
Nothing changed
I'm the same old me
Chorus: the same old me
with the same old broken heart that never mended
The same old dream that I had yesterday
When my love llfe ended
But I'll be alright
the furture's bright
as far as I can see
I;ll put a new suit and new boots
On the same old me
It must be my alarm clock
that turns your memory on
Cause every morning
It it keeps counting
every minute that your gone
So I'll pump champaign
into my brain
and toast what use to be
and then pretend the same old you
Still loves the same od me
repeat CHOUUS
Bridge: I hope the New Year brings you every thing you need
And if you get tired of running
Come on back and see
Chorus: The same old me
So you can fix this broken heart that never mended
And we can dream the dreams we use to dream
Before our love life ended
We can make it right the future's bring
As far as I can see
It's a new day so come back and stay
With the same old me
