We need God's abiding Spirit to enable us.
Christian Folk Singer/Songwriter Barb Harmatys invites you to visit her at Sound Click.
Hi. I'm Barb Harmatys and I live in a small rural community in Alberta. I'm a Christian singer/songwriter who grew up loving the folk "greats" of the 70's. I hope you like my music. I look forward to sharing it with you.
Story behind the song
I was thinking about the word abide and when I looked it up in the dictionary I found that there are two different contexts for this word. The first is, "to put up with", or "to stomach". The next is "to obey", or "to honor". We usually hear Christian songs that speak of us "abiding" in God, or in otherwords honoring Him. But we also need God to "abide" in us, or in otherwords to "put up with us". I was feeling dried out and lost and really needed God to "put up with me" and to restore in me "my first love"....
Lyrics
Abide in me Lord, abide in me - send Your Spirit down;
I’m fighting angry currents, afraid that I might drown,
Abide in me Lord, abide in me.
(CHORUS)
For it’s You who walks on water - it’s You who calms the sea;
It’s Your Spirit that can conquer - the enemy in me.
Abide in me Lord, abide in me - speak tenderly to me;
I’m fearful and I’m broken, tossed on this angry sea,
Abide in me Lord, abide in me. (Chorus)
Abide in me Lord, abide in me - don’t throw me out of reach;
I’m tired and I’m lonely, washed on this barren beach,
Abide in me Lord, abide in me. (Chorus)
(BRIDGE)
Then You gently come to me - You make your presence known;
Restore in me my first love, with assurance lead me home.
Abide in me Lord, abide in me - by Your holy Word;
I need a path to follow, words of power to be heard,
Abide in me Lord, abide in me. (Chorus)
