Daddy Sang the Anthem
(c) Nov 2006, Rebecca Dale Peaden (BMI)/Marchetti (BMI)
He was a troubled man
The war had taken his health
Watched the Braves at home
all by himself
With a few weeks left
We took him to the game
With his hand on his heart
He began to sing
Chorus:
Daddy sang The Anthem
From the top of his lungs
He couldn’t help himself
After he had begun
The people just stared
But he didn't care
He must'a been thinking
This was his last chance
So Daddy sang The Anthem
It may not seem like much
But I'd never heard him sing
Tho he'd listen to us kids
Harmonizing on the swing
He'd kept it bottled up
Must of been such a release
When he let it all out
you could tell he loved his Country
Chorus:
Daddy sang The Anthem
From the top of his lungs
He couldn’t help himself
after he had begun
The people just stared
But he didn't care
He must'a been thinking
This was his last chance
So Daddy sang The Anthem
Bridge:
Well, he'd been long gone
When they won the World Series
But to this day I can still hear him
sing so clearly...
Chorus:
Daddy sang The Anthem
From the top of his lungs
He couldn’t help himself
After he had begun
And the people just stared
But he didn't care
He must'a been thinking
This was his last chance
So Daddy sang The Anthem
