A Folk song. Ispired by a love for the natural beauty that surrounds us, and an ever increasing loathing of material progress.

A song that I started some time ago, when there was a threat of building a new "London" Airport where I live. Thereby destoying a large RSPB area and of course a very large amount of land and a couple of villages... Progress? I don't think so. Anyway it seems to be a bit of a recurring theme in some of my songs, the loss of something beautiful to be replaced by something rather ugly.
What The Future Holds.
Wandered over the mountainside, picked wild flowers in the morning sunshine.
Strolled down by the river wide, watched the clouds drift by.
Take a good look my love, very soon it will be disappearing,
Another airport or a motorway, underneath a concrete sky.
So we’ll stand back and watch, as it all unfolds.
Out of the green and into the grey, is this what the future holds?
Laid ourselves down in a meadow fair, our bodies floating on a sea of clover,
The skylarks song drifting through the air, as it soars into eternal blue.
Take a deep breath my dear, intoxicate your senses on natures perfume.
Who knows how much longer it will be here,
Because we know the things that men will do.
So we’ll stand back and watch, as it all unfolds.
Out of the green and into the grey, is this what the future holds?
Solo.
And in a woodland green, underneath an old oak tree,
We’ll sit and contemplate those ancient dreams.
Where natures spirits been, in a place that’s rarely seen,
We’ll flow along like leaves upon her streams.
Follow old paths through a forest deep, listen to the birdsong echo through the caverns.
Formed where the roots and the branches creep, entwined along the tracks of time.
Take a good look at the beauty here, before too long it will be just a memory.
And to us now it is perfectly clear, that to destroy Mother earth is a crime.
So we’ll stand back and watch, as it all unfolds.
Out of the green and into the grey, is this what the future holds?
