Sorry, I've been hosting but I haven't been posting, bin bizzy, and since they're playing to win we might as well too... ;-)
Make a list of the stories you've heard over the last year that don't matter and didn't affect anything. Multiply it by 100. That's history. That's the mystery.
The reason we can't figure out how to change the World is because we don't understand it, lacking the proper conceptual framework to see the real sources of power behind the biggest decisions. The conceptual framework will be available to understand and disseminate for a limited time only. The internet is being powered-down and slowed to conditition us to accept Internet 2, with cost-prohibitive monetization, surfing with a forced login and/or getting locked-out, and of course censorship beyond George Orwell's wildest imagination, with the goal of suspending surreality in fear and fantasy.
If we don't learn what's going on we will not understand what's going on in the near future, which means our wealthiest and most irresponsible people will continue to dehumanize all of us and get us to dehumanize each other, lowering our living standards to the levels they've acheved in the Third World. A simple look at the relationship between power and responsibility confirms that something is wrong, and learning what it is can help us finally focus on the right enemies before they erase the overwhelming proof of their existence. A pair of high-level overviews can be found in these two compulsively re-watchable documentaries, which show how we're controlled by fear and money:

We can and should help people in immediate need and keep an eye on all the issues, but to quote the Great Webster G. Tarpley: "If you're not in some way fighting a finance oligarch then forget it", because that's who's setting up the police state that will prevent us from lobbying for our needs and rights, and inevitably lose them. Mr. Tarpley's book "9/11 Synthetic Terror: Made in U.S.A." should be essential reading for every human, and a staple study in all school, college and university curriculums:

Former high-level intellgence agent and Amazon.com's top non-fiction book reviewer Robert Steele, sadly but truly started of his review by saying:
Among Hundreds of Books, The Strongest Approach to Truth
October 7, 2006
Reviewer: Robert D. Steele (Oakton, VA United States)
Original at Amazon
It is with great sadness that I conclude that this book is the strongest of the 770+ books I have reviewed here at Amazon, almost all non-fiction. I am forced to conclude that 9/11 was at a minimum allowed to happen as a pretext for war (see my review of Jim Bamford's "Pretext for War"), and I am forced to conclude that there is sufficient evidence to indict (not necessarily convict) Dick Cheney, Karl Rove and others of a neo-conservative neo-Nazi coup d'etat and kick-off of the clash of civilizations (see my review of "Crossing the Rubicon" as well as "State of Denial"). Most fascinatingly, the author links Samuel Huntington, author of "Clash of Civilizations" with Leo Strauss, the connecting rod between Nazi fascists and the neo-cons.
This is, without question, the most important modern reference on state-sponsored terrorism, and also the reference that most pointedly suggests that select rogue elements within the US Government, most likely led by Dick Cheney with the assistance of George Tenet, Buzzy Kronguard, and others close to the Wall Street gangs, are the most guilty of state-sponsored terrorism.

Mr. Steele also runs an open source intelligence website, which makes perfect sense: What are our civil servants worryin
