Story behind the song
The drone in the background is actually a looped vocal phrase, heavily altered in Reaktor 5. It isn't vocoded in any way, but harmonized, with added resonance and sent through a couple of filters. The only other tracks on this one are sampled percussions and a slightly randomized Stylus RMX preset. Percussions and drums are sent into a ping-pong delay and some reverb. So, just in case you are asking: Yes, they are deliberately distorted.
How the recording was done: I first taped the drone, and then checked for significant moments to build the drums and percussions around them. For example, there is a sequence where the drone echoes and fades out (this isn't an added effect, but an outcome of the mostly random alterations that happened during recording).
I thought about and tried adding a bass line as well, but actually, I thought the song was good as it was. I hope you enjoy it.
