"life is absurd. art being the mirror of life, vynl overdrive is the apogee of artistic expression in the twenty-first century." - Matthew Hughes "your'e the quirkiest mother fucker...." - Kristen "At last - music for Sisyphus! Vynl Overdrive brings absurdity out of the underground, into the mainstream and then back into the underground again. Story behind the song
my brother listens to rap. i hate rap. one day i told him i could write this shit. he didn't believe me. so i did. instrumentation: the hat and bells are modified single-hit samples from a free demo sample disc. the snare is sonic decimated XD-5 snare. all synths are Korg MS-2000 (all programmed by me from init). notice the complete lack of any kind of kick drum. ;)
Lyrics
whassup? ya… vynl Overdrive back at you with another phat track this one goes out to all my homies in warrenville. that's right warrenville! and all my buddies laying down their own beats. straight up midi-quantized hardcore synthesized cut n' paste sample style. watch v0 lay it down like a cracker. bitch can ya feel the bass i'm all over the place and all up in your face rattling your braincase with my ms2000 rock your block in a second knock you all on your backend from new york to new zealand i got this midi shit down i make dre look like a clown knock poor jay-z around making nelly step down do you write your own beats ya bunch of lazy deadbeats go hide under your sheets and suck on mommie's teats. chorus: i say hey bitch you ain't got nothin on me 'cept a couple of million and some multi platinum CD's and a couple of cars and a house or three and a bitch on your arm that would probably never touch me so i kick in the bassline around 80 hz turn up the filter attack 'till it's so punchy it hurts keep my leads up hi for some separation leave my vocals some space above the bassy foundation keep my snare 'round 2+4 with a gate and distortion to tweak the hi's and keep 'em, in proportion drop the mid's down a bit, and around 300 too and hi-pass around 30 for you master EQ chorus i got an 8 bar intro, kick it in with the bass then verse-chorus verse-chorus, ya gotta keep it in place then after the bridge comes verse #3 finish it off with the chorus, standard structure ya see no pre-set loops, no pre-set sound, no sampling songs, i'm not jokin' around i don't mean to sound like some lecturing dad i just wanted to show you that it isn't that bad chorus unless i paid her...
