Story behind the song
A recent public tragedy started Rick musing on the nature of life, death, and all that stuff.
Lyrics
What MADE Mr. IRWIN what he BECAME on Earth was his Unlimited SPIRIT. Spirit is what makes all of us WHO we are as individuals. Without it, we WOULD BE CLONES. And Spirit never dies.. just the body. New Orleans citizens celebrate the RELEASE of the Spirit from the Earthly form we call human. We celebrate Mr. Irwin's Great Escape from The Planet of The Ooops and We should envy the so-called dead. As Maya Angelou writes, "Death would be too kind and too brief". The human part of me still fears it from time to time.. (Too Bad) I want to be the last one to know... (Again... TOO BAD) and I do NOT plan to send out any invitations out to my funeral. (Yeah yeah yeah, so what ELSE is news?) But whatever you choose to call it... or ascribe/DEscribe the gift of transition TO.. As long as you accept the fact that there IS something... someone... bigger than all of us combined... OUT THERE (somewhere)... then Death as we (think we) know it IS SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE !!! The END ...is not Yet (Yet). The end is the beginning.....
