Congregational praise and worship leader
I'm a young contemporary Christian music leader/songwriter and church leader (I'm an ordained minister in the Church of England). My passion is to see Christ known. For everybody who knows me, having anything to do with the internet is a miracle (it takes me weeks to read my e-mails!). Im 32 and I was brought up in Manchester, knowing about God but never knowing God within my life. After a very difficult teenage period and getting into a lot of trouble I somehow found myself passing my exams and getting to university. Amazingly for some I actually came away from uni with a degree, and my wife and I went to live and work in Hertfordshire. Whilst there I was challenged by God on an Alpha course and I met Jesus as my Saviour. We worshipped at St. Andrews Chorleywood where I found great strength in knowing that Jesus is real in my life. After a number of years I found myself being called into the ordained ministry and in 2003 I was ordained into the Church of England (how this has happened Im yet to understand!). As well as serving in my local church Ive continued to lead worship at a number of different events and have led the music and teaching for church away days/weekends in various churches across the UK. I have been writing for a number of years and have a large folder of songs that have been an outpouring of my love for God. Ive never found the push to be pro-active with sending my material away, however recently I was very surprised to hear that my songs have been taken by others and used in Africa, Spain France and Jamaica as well as a number of churches across the UK. This led to a friend of mine setting this link up but with funds being tight I can only afford the free download (I hope you like it). My song writing always seems to be very basic but hopefully it represents part of a journey with God - a journey on which I have always sought to keep the Cross and the Resurrection central in my life.

Story behind the song
This song was written whilst I was studying at college and asking God to show me the way forward for my ministry. In John’s gospel it is recorded that when Jesus told the disciples they knew the way to the place he was going, Thomas answered "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" This uncertainty was how I felt at the time. I had felt like I was walking with Jesus but had somehow missed out and so was about to miss the ‘ending’. Jesus’ response was one which fell deep within my heart "I am the way and the truth and the life…” The promise that he is here with us renewed my faith in his promises. This song was one which allowed me recognize he calls us to come to him in order that we might live a life of worship. I wanted the female repeat as a way of showing we are all called, and though we come to God separated from one another in some way (be it through gender, race, social status etc), we join together in worship of him (hence the last line is sung in unison). In the chorus I tried to reflect upon what it means to me that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. I love this song because it holds the truths in a very simple way however I still find it difficult to lead congregationally because it moves me spiritually and emotionally. How often do I forget to let Jesus be the way I choose to follow, the truth in my life, the life that brings forgiveness, the hope for all of time?
Lyrics
Verse: I come to you my holy God, With outstretched hands and songs of praise. For there on the cross you gave your life, But death could not hold the King of kings. Pre-chorus: You call us to come, (men) You call us to come, (women) Before your throne. (men) Before your throne. (women) To give you our lives, (men) To give you our lives, (women) And worship you. (all) Chorus: Be the way we choose to follow, Be the truth in our lives. Be the life that brings forgiveness, Be the hope for all of time (Repeat)
