I'm a young contemporary Christian music leader/songwriter and church leader (I'm an ordained minister in the Church of England). My passion is to see Christ known. For everybody who knows me, having anything to do with the internet is a miracle (it takes me weeks to read my e-mails!). Im 32 and I was brought up in Manchester, knowing about God but never knowing God within my life. After a very difficult teenage period and getting into a lot of trouble I somehow found myself passing my exams and getting to university. Amazingly for some I actually came away from uni with a degree, and my wife and I went to live and work in Hertfordshire. Whilst there I was challenged by God on an Alpha course and I met Jesus as my Saviour. We worshipped at St. Andrews Chorleywood where I found great strength in knowing that Jesus is real in my life. After a number of years I found myself being called into the ordained ministry and in 2003 I was ordained into the Church of England (how this has happened Im yet to understand!). As well as serving in my local church Ive continued to lead worship at a number of different events and have led the music and teaching for church away days/weekends in various churches across the UK. I have been writing for a number of years and have a large folder of songs that have been an outpouring of my love for God. Ive never found the push to be pro-active with sending my material away, however recently I was very surprised to hear that my songs have been taken by others and used in Africa, Spain France and Jamaica as well as a number of churches across the UK. This led to a friend of mine setting this link up but with funds being tight I can only afford the free download (I hope you like it). My song writing always seems to be very basic but hopefully it represents part of a journey with God - a journey on which I have always sought to keep the Cross and the Resurrection central in my life.

Story behind the song
‘I bow down’ started to develop at the same time as ‘You died to set us free’ and ‘Holy God I turn to you’, so there are some lyrical overlaps. I guess this song really started whilst I was leading musical worship for a church away day. There had been substantial teaching on bowing down before God and coming to the cross. As the preacher encouraged those who wanted prayer ministry to come forward, I began to play through a chord progression that I had been ‘twiddling’ with at home. I had a basic tune and a few odd lines but the content of the song wasn’t ‘formed yet’. Somebody gave a word about worshipping in Truth and so I came away and worshipped God in private, crying out for him to help me learn what this means. I had recently been in hospital for an operation and whilst there I was diagnosed with a degenerative kidney disease (they told me it couldn’t be cured). This song and others have really been focused on my dependency upon God. In Romans 14 Paul uses Isaiah to reiterate Jesus’ exalted position. This song really tells of coming before God in willingness to bow down and exalt him. I guess some apology might be needed for the lyrical repetition across a few songs, but God was really speaking to me about seeking his embrace and love. If I ever find myself in a position of insecurity or doubt, I am reassured by the fact that God longs to hold us and to embrace us as his own.
Lyrics
Verse 1: I bow down before you now, Searching for your grace. I fall down at your throne, To seek your warm embrace. Chorus: At the cross you gave your life. A sacrifice that saved us all. Here I am before you now, Your praises I will sing, Glory to the King, I bow down. Verse 2: How I long to love you more. Change my heart I pray. Teach me how to worship you, In Spirit and in truth.
