Congregational praise and worship leader
I'm a young contemporary Christian music leader/songwriter and church leader (I'm an ordained minister in the Church of England). My passion is to see Christ known. For everybody who knows me, having anything to do with the internet is a miracle (it takes me weeks to read my e-mails!). Im 32 and I was brought up in Manchester, knowing about God but never knowing God within my life. After a very difficult teenage period and getting into a lot of trouble I somehow found myself passing my exams and getting to university. Amazingly for some I actually came away from uni with a degree, and my wife and I went to live and work in Hertfordshire. Whilst there I was challenged by God on an Alpha course and I met Jesus as my Saviour. We worshipped at St. Andrews Chorleywood where I found great strength in knowing that Jesus is real in my life. After a number of years I found myself being called into the ordained ministry and in 2003 I was ordained into the Church of England (how this has happened Im yet to understand!). As well as serving in my local church Ive continued to lead worship at a number of different events and have led the music and teaching for church away days/weekends in various churches across the UK. I have been writing for a number of years and have a large folder of songs that have been an outpouring of my love for God. Ive never found the push to be pro-active with sending my material away, however recently I was very surprised to hear that my songs have been taken by others and used in Africa, Spain France and Jamaica as well as a number of churches across the UK. This led to a friend of mine setting this link up but with funds being tight I can only afford the free download (I hope you like it). My song writing always seems to be very basic but hopefully it represents part of a journey with God - a journey on which I have always sought to keep the Cross and the Resurrection central in my life.

Story behind the song
This song came from a time spent alone with God reflecting upon the pain of the cross. I decided just to sit on the piano stool and ‘tinker’ when the chorus began to develop. The more I tinkered, the more the phrase ‘you embraced the world with your open arms, you died to set us free’ spoke of the truths wrapped up in the cross. I’m moved by the account of Israel’s embrace of Ephraim and Manasseh in Genesis 48:10. The fact that they had to physically move close to Israel in order for him to embrace them, made me reflect that on the cross Jesus opened wide his arms and beckoned us to draw close to him. The song really grew from a seed of recognition that it was Jesus’ love for us that held him there upon the cross. The King of kings freely chose to die so that we might have life. I used this song during an away day with church leaders and music leaders from around the world. At the end of the day a number of them took the music and have subsequently used in within their churches. As we look to the cross, how can we not be compelled to offer up our lives to him…?
Lyrics
Verse 1: A sacrifice on the cross was made, As you took our sins away. Broken, weak you gave it all, Paid the price we could not pay. Chorus: You embraced the world With your open arms, You died to set us free. I am yours, on my knees I bow, Bring my life before you now. Jesus all I have I give to you, Jesus all I have I give to you. Verse 2: Your love for us held you on the cross, King of kings you chose to die. Poured out your love on a broken world, Gave it all to bring us life.
