This beat has a cool catchy baseline, and some cool-weird moments. The lyrics are basically an inversion of conventional hip-hop lyrics; so they're a little clever in concept, but the rhymes get derivative in places. Also the recording was a little
It needed to be written.
Turn it down
Verse 1
Let’s get this party ended, don’t set it off now
Don’t drop the beat and don’t break it down.
Don’t move your feet, man, but if you do.
Dance like everybody’s looking at you.
Don’t shake it. Please refrain from shaking
And don’t keep it real, it’s time for faking.
Most importantly, concerning volume
Turn it down ‘til it sounds like it’s in the next room
Don’t bump this in your ride on the streets.
Don’t bob your head around to the beat.
Don’t wave your hand, don’t wave it in the air
And give the impression that you just DO care.
Could somebody give me less bass?
Not all up in here, but in some other place?
In fact, give me less mid range, and give me less treble
And we’ll take the whole thing down a couple of levels.
Chorus:
Turn it down
Until you need to lean way in to hear the song
Turn it down
We’re gonna rock the party all morning long
Turn it down
Until the sound of a pin dropping drowns it out
Turn it down
Until It sounds like I’m whispering when I shout.
Verse 2
I’m definitely not here to rock the mic
And my rhymes are not ill, and in fact, they’re not tight
Man, I suppose that I can be stopped
And my skills aren’t that good, so they’re easy to top
I’m gonna show you things you’ve seen a million times before
With a sound that’s really stale, and easy to ignore
It sounds best if you turn it down. Way down in fact,
So hit the button, pull the dial down or turn the knob back.
The other MCs, man, they’re really not bad
They’re never going away, but my sound’s a passing fad
They’ve got exactly enough respect for me and my crew
But then, it really is easy to do what I do.
There’s no way I’m gonna re-invent the whole game.
I’m gonna cave into pressure, and keep it the same
And I’ll probably quit when I start to get bored
Unless, of course, you turn down the volume some more.
Verse 3
I’d like to not give a shoutout to my friends or my peers
Don’t listen up or give me your attention right here.
I do this for all the playa haters out there
‘cause you’ve been good to me, and ‘cause I really care.
Lower the roof, lower the roof down low
‘cause were getting altogether way too much air flow
It’s getting cold in here. Must be a draft coming in
Put on some more clothes, and cover up some more skin.
I don’t want to see anybody on their feet.
Sit down on the floor if you can’t find a seat.
Sit down, and sit still, and quiet down, and then resume
Watching my style stand out like smoke in a dark room.
I am concerned, hearing degrades through the years
It would help me out a lot if you’d protect your ears
So turn it down even lower than you turned it before
And make the neighbors think that you don’t even live here anymore
