New version (2007) of a song written and recorded in my university years (1979-84) when thoughts in the late night often drifted awy from the text books.
It seems I do remain the same.
Outside it's still a rainy day
The drops here on my window
reflect the street light
just like a glittering mosaic
They could be stars upon a foreign heaven
And in the middle of the night
there's just the ticking of my watch to tell me
we're moving on and on in time
but for ever and ever
remain the same
It's been a long and lazy day
All the things I should have done
are left untouched, but
it seems I rather just sit down
and think of everything to come some day.
They say I keep dreaming all too much
'bout things I wouldn't have to care about, and
I must confess: I guess they're right
But looking back on the past
I've remained the same
Then when I look around myself
I get a feeling I'm no longer present
I see it all like on a screen
where everything appears so clearly for me
Stopped at a painting on the wall
Oh, did it always look that silly way?
I just never noticed it before
though of course it has always
remained the same
For each new day that comes around
I have the hope I'll get a little wiser
Life is to learn about yourself
And all the rest is there to bring new questions
Upon an unlaid path we walk
until we reach the point of termination
And on that day I'm sure we'll find
throughout a lifetime a man
remains the same
remains the same
