Incidental Theatre Music
This is from a commission I did for the Lexington Children's Theatre in Lexington, KY, called "If you give a mouse a cookie..." It was basically like writing for a cartoon. Every line in the script had to be choreographed and timed so I could begin writing the music. Every scene was like that. The hard part is not to distract from the performers. I chose a small orchestra. It turned out perfectly. The kids cheered to the music and the actors.
The director approached me a week before opening night and asked if I could do it. All in all about 10 minutes of music: spotted, timed, written, scored and recorded in 5 days. Finished right on schedule. PHEW!
This is a scene where the mischievious mouse decides to scale the fridge to hang a picture. He begins by piling boxes, one on top of the other. He gets his handy grapeling hook, throws it over and begins to climb. He places the picture on the fridge, but slips and falls, leaving him hanging on the handle of the refridgerator. Just as he falls the little boy walks in to find him in yet another predicament.
