I live in a small town in Alberta and there are always those among us who don't fit in. People think they are strange, and therefore ignore them. This song is written for them.
Norman lived in a two room shack,
The simple life he led.
The folks in town they whispered about him -
"That Norman, he's a strange one", they said.
(CHORUS)
But God, He looks on the inside -
The heart's what's important to Him.
The world has nothing compared with the Norman's (Gordon's, Ellen's),
All they really need, is a friend.
Gordon walked the streets of town,
A greeting to all he met.
They looked away, mumbled good morning.
"That Gordon, he's a strange one", they said.
Ellen mumbled when she talked,
It was hard to hear what she said.
Ignoring her, they thought her a bother -
"That Ellen, she's a strange one", they said.
What a friend we have in Jesus.
Could we be a friend like Him?
The world has nothing compared with the Norman's, and the Gordon's, and the Ellens....
All they really need, is a friend.
