Story behind the song
I wrote this song shortly after Dale Earnhardt died. I thought of all the hero's we've had who have passed away and the fact that many times we didn't really realize they were heros to us until they were gone. This song speaks of two high profile people Ronnie Van Zant and his band members and management and Dale Earnhardt, but it speaks to anyone who has lost a hero rather it be a loved one or someone they just looked up to.
