A good song for travelling with! Upward, forward motion dictated by the moving bass and guitar riffs. Cute little tune too!

Melodic, inventive pop/rock music. Singer/songwriter; Adult Alternative.
I've played in two bands that got small label deals... The Awakening in the mid 1980's, and One Hundred Days, in the 90's. Now, I just write whatever I want to. I work at a studio full time, and the bulk of my job is writing, so I am always having to come up with material. The problem is, I spend way too little time on my own stuff after hours! I'm trying to change!! My musical style is a scatalogical blend of everything I love about music...Melody, harmony, quirky shifts of mood, a constant desire to not do what is expected.

Story behind the song
I was in a hotel in Calgary Alberta on September 10th, the night before 9-11. This song came so quickly, I almost missed it. Ironically... I wanted to be leaving for home, but due to all flights being cancelled on 9-11, it was quite a few days before I was Leaving Town!!
Lyrics
Leaving Town (Music Sept 10/01 Palliser Hotel, Calgary) (Words Sept 10/01, Sept 23/01) I’m waking up today with some new things to say, I am heading to a place I’ve never been, And it’s hard to believe that I finally see, A place off by the sun, where I can have some fun… I’m heading on a train, in the September rain, I’m getting far away from everything, All the lies that you told, all the feelings I hold, I’m kissing them goodbye today. That’s why I’m leaving town, yes I’m leaving town, I don’t know where I’m headed, I’m spinning round and round, Oh yes I’m leaving town, Yes I’m leaving town, I’ve got to go (it’s time to go), (reverse these words on other choruses) I’m leaving town… I’m a thousand miles away from the things that you said, Yet I’m closer to the place I long to be, Free from you, free from me, far from disparity, I’m leaving all my cares behind. (Chorus) I’m leaving town on a fairy tale, Taking me to places new, I’m leaving town on a wing and a prayer, I’m heading out alone without you… (Solo) There’s a key in the door and a note on the floor, It’s telling you that I am far away, And that key holds our place and our memories, I am moving on today… (Chorus – End) Words And Music by Ian Tanner Copyright 2001 TanRocks Tunes/Socan
