Lyrics
She's Running ©2002 Dawn Kenealy She always believed that Daddy meant well, When he pulled back his fist or he pulled out his belt, And the bruises would always fade with time. Then one night at 16, while he was asleep, She took a fifty dollar bill and the keys to the Jeep, And she headed out, across the state line. Where she's going she don't know, But she's sure she has to go. She's running, never looking back. She's running, trying to escape the past, And hoping to erase the memories. She's running, tears falling down her face. She's running, to a safer place. She's running, Oh, she's running. She's just running. Seven years later- a mom and a wife, she finds herself living a miserable life, And she wants out, but she's full of fear. Then she thinks of her son watching Daddy get mean, will he grow to relive all the things that he's seen, And she knows she has to get him out of here. Where she's going she don't know. But she's sure she has to go. She's running, never looking back. She's running, trying to escape the past, And hoping to erase the memories. She's running, tears falling down her face. She's running, to a safer place. She's running, Oh, she's running. She's just running. Living in a shelter, living in a car. But living sure beats dying, no matter where you are. She's running, never looking back. She's running, trying to escape the past, And hoping to erase the memories. She's running, tears falling down her face. She's running, to a safer place. She's running, Oh, she's running. She's just running.

It seems once you start out on the wrong foot, it's hard to ever get your stride back the way it should be...but still we try. Your song reminded me of that, someone who had a hard life and is now trying to protect themselves and others from going back to that life again. The bridge was great....living beats dying. Great job on this song.
