Written about and in memory of Kevin Obrien who died in 2002 from cancer.
These magical words were written by a good friend of mine in Denver - architect by day - poet by night. This is a 'give back' we composed to both Kevin O'brien's widow and the Mankind Project (New Warriors) (www.mkp.org)
I saw his shining face yesterday
And I smiled, cause he touched me in the way he always does
But now you say death called him away
No, you can’t say that! I still feel the warmth of his touch
I go out, I do the customary things
With a hollow in my heart, a crack through which I hear him sing
You know he touched me… I’ll never be the same
Awakened forever – oh, such a sweet, bitter thing…
Passion like thunder, eyes all ablaze
You shook my soul to the core
Yet touch so tender, sweet as a kiss
I hear… I see… I feel you still
Now that you’re gone.
I’m so forsaken, echoes and tears
How can it be that this love I feel is real
Is it really you? I can hear you sing
On every face, every breeze that blows through this hole in my heart.
A smile caught in passing. A brush on the skin
Gives me the strength to go on
I’m not alone now, in all these things.
I hear… I see… I feel you now
I sing your song.
I see your shining face now every day
And I smile as you touch me in your gentle ways
So let them say death took you away
Far you may wander, but you have a home … my heart.
