I wrote this song when I decided to move back to Gillette, Wyoming after living in the city for years, and the anxiety that I felt wondering if I would still find the same opportunities again
BIGGER DREAMS (than this small town)
Black coffee in front of me
Dirty spoon in my hand
I reach for my last cigarette
As I put down the wanted ads
The waitress asked,
"What can I get for you?"
I just smiled and replied,
"Hash Browns, eggs over-medium, and a good job on the side."
And I could use a good shoulder to cry on
Every now and then
You see, I've got great expectations
But there ain't no life in this dead end
No way out, no way out
I've been here to long
No way out, no way out
I should be movin' along
I've got bigger dreams than this small town
Hey darlin' here a little tip
My sincere gratuity
Don't get a ticket on a sinkin' ship
That ain't ever gonna set sail at sea
Could you use a good shoulder to cry on
Every now and then?
You sit there talkin' about your great expectations
But you'll never build a life in this dead end
No way out, no way out
I've been here to long
No way out, no way out
I should be movin' along
I've got bigger dreams than this small town
Endless days and endless nights
I've been here all my life
But who would know?
I have nothing to show...
No way out, no way out
I've been here to long
No way out, no way out
I should be movin' along
I've got bigger dreams than this small town
