old john owned a hardware store down in san lorena and all he wanted was to carry on his simple existense but life's not a solid it's a mercury race to see how fast it all can go out from its place that wouldnt take long for our old john in just a few months everything was long gone no it wouldnt take long for old john they put up a couple new neighborhoods a man has to have a place to live no brick siding, just painted wood but we'll take what we can get and a couple new neighborhoods means a couple new streets til we're expanding the old one a couple of feet that didnt mean much more to old john than a couple more customers with which to pawn no it didnt mean much to old john headquarters heard about san lorena decided to give their people some choice so they built a new hardware store and put it somewhere thatll make some noise now a big sign off of the interstate and a now hiring sign and the help of fate couldnt have meant more for our old john he thought he oughtta close and he was dead on another honest living beaten by flashy neon and that's bout all you can say for old john
