Turn and sigh
Sitting in my easy chair
I feel the stirrings in the air
Sentiments and memories
That tell me I might still care
About the problems of the world
Flags of war have been unfurled
Starving, poor, sick miseries
Penetrating through the swirled
Passion runs deep
When we are young
It’s hard to keep
Our hearts that strong
Once every woe
Would hear our cry
Now we know
To turn and sigh
Modern communication
Brings news of every nation
To my doorstep, on my wall
The latest horrors and sensations
Making me numb to any
Terrors of the many
Paraded daily as if they all
Were some other’s tragedy
Passion runs deep
When we are young
It’s hard to keep
Our hearts that strong
Once every woe
Would hear our cry
Now we know
To turn and sigh
