Story behind the song
Do mo chara Ronnie, Dún na Séad (For my friend Ronnie, House on the hill) This is the title song of the current cd album, written by Stef in Baltimore – West Cork, Ireland, in June 2005, for his friend Ronnie Carthy, singer & guitarist. A lively and wet discussion in the local Baltimore Pub “Algier’s” one late night led to the composition of this hearty but very seriously intended song.
Lyrics
Fair Play to You (for Ronnie Carthy, Baltimore) Don’t regret and blame yourself for things you haven’t done Only if you do it, you can tell if you have won Often it is better if we don’t, that is true But fair play to all of those who do Sometimes things will make you want to turn around and stay Who is there to tell when it is best to walk away It’s up to one and all if they sit or they dance So fair play to those who grab their chance chorus Fear and doubt Fair play to you if you can sus it out And even if you can’t, it’s your good right to have a try But if you leave it don’t keep asking why No chance is the only one you’re ever going to get And if you don’t take it, there’ll be nothing to regret But wouldn’t life be boring with no risk at all So fair play, to those who risk it all 2 x chorus, refrain Stef Sigfalk, Baltimore, West Cork , June 2005
