A good tune written by former drummer and founding member Andrew Karagianis from the earlier Cloud Machine years.
(pronounced Huh-Marsh-Uh)
When asked about the meaning of the song, Karagianis said "Hamartia is a word I learned in Grade 11 literature class, and it means error in judgement. At the time when I wrote Hamartia (August 2002), most of my songs were about discrimination, judgemental errors, etcetera. I wrote a quitar riff which became the song with the help of the band. I don't rememeber if any particular situation provoked me to write the lyrics. It is about rejecting advice and help, and how doing that would screw you over. I have a feeling I wrote it when I was angry with someone, probably a parent or friend."
When the message was sent
From my head to yours
You quickly replied
By closing the doors
One day you decided
To block it all out
You chose to ignore me
When I'd whisper or shout
If you throw it away
Like a hard rubber ball
Hamartia will be
Your ironic downfall
If you're given rewards
But ignore them too
You'll find that the message
Will never reach you
Like the other songs say
When it cuts like a knife
That you only get
One chance at your life
Chorus
