A short fling with a handsome fashion designer back in the eighties was the inspiration for this song. He also inspired one of my oil paintings. Then he left for Paris and this song is about considering following him there. There are references in this song to his favorite colors, his last name and a song by his favorite artist. Also, the phrase "Oil on canvas doen't show it all", refers to the painting I mentioned.
Leaving for Paris
And the phone just keeps on ringing
Make me believe that you’ll miss me
And I’ll dress in black and blue
Once in a fortnight
I hope that you will think about me
Play that kiss just one more time
And live my dream
CHORUS
Oil on canvas doesn’t show it all
And I’ll never see you back
The way I saw you when you left
City walls are never gonna fall
So I’ll be here
And I’ll see you
Leaving for Paris
It’s a cold and lonely highway
But I’ve seen that road before
So I’ll see it once again
Once in a lifetime
Every man sees a dream come true
But I may have had my turn
So I’ll keep dreaming
CHORUS
Oil on canvas doesn’t say it all
And I’ll never see you back
The way I saw you when you left
City walls are never gonna fall
So I’ll be here
And I’ll see you
And I love you
