Story behind the song
My closest mate's family is heavily involved with music, not only in the community, but also across Australia. One night he family played host to 11 or so people, each trained in either classical, blues, jazz, etc. Each with their own specialty. It was like the equivilent to a jam session, but with more traditional instruments. One bloke was a very close family friend to my mates family, and I knew him by association in a number of different ways. He played the sax better than anyone I had ever heard. He had been diagnosed with cancer, and it was clearly taking a toll on his body, but definatly not his music. This was one of the most inspiring moments in my life I suppose. This sick man playing the blues to a small crowd of stunned, inspiried and in some cases, crying crowd. Amazing.
Lyrics
The doctor hadns you your date of death written in ink, on lined paper it all seems fake and incomplete how could this be the end? You still play with more life than anyone I know the warmth in its tone replaces the warmth in your face -- You subject youself to the things you love Chorus ====== And people come from all around just to hear the magic sound of the slowly departing man Not one person was left unmoves when the slowly departing man played the blues Verse ===== No superficial words were spoken and alot of silence there to be broken he entertained, gave love a name he blew a smile and rolled right away Chorus ====== And people came from all around just to hear the magic sound of the slowly departing man And not one person was left unmoved when the slowly departing man played the blues
