Originally called "Someone asked me" (wonder where that came from...), the new title is from an old sample of a spoof language tape that it used to end with. No idea where the lyrics came from... I guess it's about how you can give everyone the best advice in the world but never take it yourself and how your problems are your own and no one else's...
Someone asked me what I do
I told them I paint pictures
I said I was an artist
It was better than the truth
Someone asked me how I felt
I told them I was dandy
I thanked them for asking
I didn't want to bring them down
CHORUS
If your ship has sailed
Mine sank before it docked
And if you think you failed
I found it better not to try
Someone asked me for advice
I told them to be themselves
I gave them just my thoughts
Though I never heed myself
Someone asked me for the time
I told them it had passed
I said they were the future
I didn't care if they were late
CHORUS
Someone asked me to be them
I told them I would not
I shook his hand and walked away
He died that afternoon
CHORUS
