In 2003, my band CenterAisle played at a Sweet-16 birthday party for a young lady named Christine. The boyfriend of the birthday girl was a young man named James. A couple of weeks later, James was tragically killed by a hit-and-run driver. As fate would have it, Christine and James would dance their last dance at this Sweet 16 party.
These events affected me pretty profoundly. My role in this whole thing was just as an observer, but I was affected and it inspired me to write this song. I wondered about the pain that Christine was going through, and this is my feeble attempt to crystallize those feelings.

Your road was paved so golden
The sun would shine on you emboldened
I hear your laughter
I hear your laughter
That glint within your eye
Opened doors where good things lie
I hear your laughter
I hear your laughter
Just like that you were gone
And I know all things must pass
The Summer turned so cold, so quick
And I hold this empty glass
You never let the forces belt you
With the cards that life had dealt you
I hear your laughter
I hear your laughter
And all your words are now my rock
But I can't turn back the clock
I hear your laughter
I hear your laughter
Just like that you were gone
And I know all things must pass
The Summer turned so cold, so quick
And I hold this empty glass
Waking up is so demanding
I am left alone and standing
I hear your laughter
I hear your laughter
Cut down in your prime
We just ran out of time
I hear your laughter
I hear your laughter
Just like that you were gone
And I know all things must pass
The Summer turned so cold, so quick
And I hold this empty glass
