Story behind the song
I recently read a book called The Perfect Machine about the building of the Mt. Palomar Observatory. It was an excellent account of the engineering that went into building the observatory. This song was inspired by this book. I wanted to capture the technical nature of engineering but also illustrate the elegance and art of implementation.
The engineering "theme" develops early during the establishment of the song. It then breaks into an artistic melody with the technical line placed firmly underneath. The transition hopes to illustrate the balance between art and engineering.
