9-11-02. Today's the anniversary of the tragic terrorist attacks last year. You can reflect on the tragedy while you listen to this track.
9-1-1, or September 11...perhaps at first an ironic date for such a tragedy; but upon thought, there could not be a more fitting date to call upon the help of not just the police, but upon all Americans to UNITE in this national and global emergency.
Teenagers across America have not had such a catastrophic moment in their lives until 9-1-1. Excuse the trite idiom, but for us this event was like the end of the world--an earth shattering day where everyone was forced to reevaluate themselves: who they were, how they fit in to this whole mess. All this to figure out when everything seemed so unreal...so utterly unbelievable. It is our JFK Assination, our Pearl Harbor...our crazy event that we never imagined would happen to us. A true American tragedy that we must learn from and react correctly--both morally and rationally--to. One Love.
7:15 am, that’s when my day began,
Driving off to school to the words of some crazy man
Chillin’ wit my friend in the car that we were still in
Hearing some guy describe smoke outside his buildin
I was feeling somethin’ odd a strange premonition
There came suspicion, what he said next, gave me visions
Then it came when a voice explained the matter
The newscaster said how two towers had splattered
Thinkin, “Aww fuck”, I was awe struck by the words
How could a metal giant possibly be crushed by some birds
It seemed absurd, I wasn’t disturbed I was in mental shock!
A structure in the sky, sacrificed by metal hawks?
There was no TV where I could see these, but believe me
I was at the scene live and my mind saw it in 3-D
My skin felt the debris, I smelt the degrees of fire
The flesh burning grease, and helplessly, I just listened
I started dissin’ Pakis, Arabs and camel jockeys
I’ll smack these, Palestinians and Iraqis
I couldn’t help it, hot blood pumped in my veins
I needed something to blame, a scapegoat, just something to hate, yo
9-1-1, we got lives at stake
Today lost souls had innocent lives to take
9-1-1, call someone, find an escape
‘Cause at times like these, it’s hard to hide our hate
9-1-1, we got lives at stake
Dark Forces had innocent lives to take
9-1-1, it’s your last chance to cry today
‘Cause headlines say: our innocence died today
The news descended on the radio, attack on the pentagon
A heinous strike on the government that we depend upon
Some give to life, some steal, seems so unreal
For the first time, faces were true, everyone real
It was all I could think about in calculus class
Nothin’ but questions, How on earth could this happen? I asked
How many people had died? How many wives would cry?
A nation with eyelids dropping tears all over this crisis
Got home from school, and watched the Wounded Apple
Prayed all would prevail in what seemed a Doomed Capitol
kids quoting prophetic lines from Nostradamus
I could use a day off, all this confusion and chaos upon us
I needed a target, to hold to a burning stake
My instincts raged, as my sorrow turned into hate
I couldn’t assort thoughts, was it Isreali support?
Missile Defense? Nothing was answered, Of course

I was listening to radio when a Muslim girl called in
She talked in pieces, crying, like the sky had fallen
She had awaken to the news, foreseeing mistaken abuse,
She feared school and chose to wait till hate would diffuse
The girl had no accent, she was American, point blank
Felt that she would be a target, when her own deployed tanks
What the hell is that, this is exactly how they want us to act
They want us terrorize, justify their satanic attack
They wanna see us hurt Arab Americans
Wanna show that we don’t care for them, show how we stare at them
There’s no place for arrogance, take this in comparison:
They’re American, but we fear them, it’s a double nightmare for them
must stay safe, play grace, our morale can’t be displaced
it’s hard not to hate but our, identity can’t be defaced
We gotta save face, ‘cause we aren’t, brothers of hatred
What perished in New York composed of all colors of faces
Let’s not turn to be racist, and be proud of our namesake
And do what it says, stand United as the name states
It’s right that we’re enraged, but we needa contain hate
Know the real enemy we must fight, and then maintain faith
